EST – Water Labelling Options : Cost Benefit Analysis (2020)
This Energy Savings Trust report for Scottish Water reviews the potential costs and benefits of a mandatory product water efficiency label in Scotland linked to varing levels of minimum standards.
The most ambitious option saves the most water, reducing per capita consumption by 48 litres per person per day after 25 years. This option is also the most cost effective, with a cost:benefit ratio of 1:31. The more cautious options deliver lower water savings, as expected, but also with lower cost:benefit ratios. The carbon dioxide equivalent savings which includes the embodied carbon dioxide of water, comes to 5.94 million tonnes after 25 years; that’s the same amount absorbed by a forest the size of Aberdeenshire and Perthshire combined.
